It’s
important to know what you want when you order patches. This way you know exactly
what you’re getting. Below are a few basic questions you can ask
yourself before you place an order: |
ART Do you have camera ready artwork? |
If you set up what you’d like the patch to look like yourself, you can usually save on or completely eliminate any set up fees. |
% EMBROIDERY Will you need full or partial embroidery? |
If you can see the fabric color behind the embroidered design then you’re probably using partial embroidery. |
SIZE What size would you like the patch to be? |
Consider
what your patch is going onto. You may find that a 3 patch is too big
for a baseball cap, or a 2 is too small for a shirt. |
QUANTITY How many will you need? |
Is
this a one time event or will you need these throughout the year?
Consider ordering more than you need so you have them in stock |
SHAPE Is square, circle, oval, etc. or other? |
You can put your design in a square or oval (etc.) or the actual design can be the shape of the patch. |
THREAD COLOR How many colors will you use? What colors? |
Keep
track of what colors you use and how many. Some manufacturers give you
a certain number colors for free while others charge for each color
used. Try to use simple colors in case you need to make substitutions. |
FABRIC COLOR What color? |
Even if your patch is 100% embroidery you may still want to pick a fabric color. |
BORDER TYPE Merrow, hot knife, fabric cut? |
A merrow border is standard but for a patch with a complex shape you may consider a hot knife border. |
BACKING No Backing, plastic, adhesive, heat seal, velcro? |
Don’t forget to choose a backing or you can have no backing at all. |
